Ice crystallography explained - the intelligence of water

February 28, 2024

The first time I saw the documentary 'Secret of Water' on Gaia.com it blew my mind. The documentary shows the findings of dr. Masaru Emoto of the effect our words, intentions and music have on the molecular structure of water. I placed a YouTube video below to show you why the work of dr. Masaru Emoto intrigued me so much.

Sadly dr. Masaru Emoto is not with us anymore. One day I was searching the web if there was any information about his technique, as I wanted to explore water myself so much. I couldn't find anything, but the next morning I noticed an Instragram post that mentioned the work of Veda Austin on the intelligence of water. She developed a method to freeze water yourself, without needing a microscope. If you are not convinced by the videos in the video, I recommend you to take a look at Veda Austin's Instagram account. In her ice formations you see what she calls 'crystallographic expressions' in respons to stimuli. In simple words: the ice sometimes literally shows the shape and form of what it was exposed to. Animals, flowers, human faces... it can all appear in the ice. Besides that, she discovered that specific patterns or symbols appear in respond to certain stimuli. She calls these images in ice hydroglyphs and part of her research is to understand this 'language' of symbols of water. I purchased Veda's technique and hydroglyph PDF. Funnily enough I had just bought a new fridge and freezer so it felt like it was meant to be.

Impatient as I am, I did not wait for the arrival of the Petri dishes I ordered, so I took a measuring cup made of glass and started to see if this worked for me too. Below the exposure of tap water to my hummingbird greeting card. I noticed the shape of the bird wings occurring in the ice. Besides that, the hydropglyphs for 'living', 'completion' and 'light' appeared in the ice. Where as 'completion' reminded me that it soon was the end of a year, celebrating a new year of life.

There are some things you must learn about water first before you start. As you will find, different types of water show different formations in ice. For example, hail- and rain water show a structure that reminds me of how fountains and drips splash when they fall (see image below of melted hail water). Those images look playful and energetic.

Tap water on the other hand, shows a more chaotic pattern and in my case, many sharp lines. The quality of tap water will probably vary for each country and region. I decided to work with bottled mineral water as it shows 'softer' patterns with more life (lot's of fern like hydroglyphs). Because of these differences in quality, I now drink mostly bottled mineral water myself.

When you start your freezing experiment you will notice a few things:

  • Just like when you want to start with Zen drawing and intuitive writing, freezing water works best with an open and relaxed state of mind.
  • not one ice formation is the same and they differ a lot even under the same circumstances.
  • once you quickly photographed the ice and take the time to interpret the photo, you will see so much more that you didn't see at first.
  • although many ice formations may seem meaningless at first, especially with the help of the hydroglyphs manual and also the help your intuition, you will find that there are often meaningful formations in the ice. Once you get a feeling of how to interpret these symbols, it feels like reading symbols. That's why I call it 'ice readings' myself.
  • Once you are open to the more subtle messages in the ice, like me you, may discover that some messages in the ice are very personal, reflect your own awareness and a consciousness that goes beyond space and time. I have found symbols in the ice that I didn't know exist, but later after research appeared very meaningful for that specific ice reading.

Since I discovered Veda's freezing method I started a digital 'diary' where I write down all ice readings I did. The influences it got, the photo's I took and the type of water I used. Just because sometimes you understand things at a later moment when looking at it with an open mind.

As I often combine my ice readings with intuitive writing (explained on this website), I wanted to share something I wrote a while ago that now seems very relevant to this website:

What is my 'thing' with water?

Answer: It is the transport of your thoughts. Water transports, moves, nourishes, changes light, reflects. It is a building block.

What is my purpose / goal with this?

Answer: Connection to life. Contact, love. It's not just seeing. It is feeling: the flow of energy (water) in your body.

Water does what it does. What you need to learn from water is 'connection'. The connection you can make. The effect that connection has. The power of positive transformation.

Then I spoke to the water and said: 'Connection, God is connection'.

I froze the water and what appeared was the sailboat in the video above.

I noticed the sailboat immediately in the ice and also what seems to look like sunbeams behind a cloud. It reminded me of the sailboat in Veda Austins video. After this reading, sailboats appeared in almost all my ice readings for quite a while. No matter what stimuli I used, a sailboat was the result. I almost got suspicious that something in my Petri dish was causing it!

I switched dishes, again a sailboat shape. I saw sailboats in what seemed to look like stormy weather until it looked like the boat reached a shore and then the sailboat disappeared from the ice for a while. Every now and then I see a boat in the ice, but not as consistent as in those days.

An example

I will give you an example of a very special ice formation. Other ice readings will be discussed in new blog post, as there are often long stories attached to a single ice reading. This example refers to the tree and ice image above as there is a story attached to this image.

As I walk my dog Bodhi every day, I often pass a weeping willow near my house. And since I had seen beautiful ice formations of trees on Veda Austin's Instagram, I thought I'd take a photo of the willow and expose the water to the photo one day.

The next day I had forgotten about the photo and I was not in the best mood when I started freezing water. I felt a bit sad. I wanted to examine the effects of the words 'I love you', but before I knew it I was speaking to water about how the previous ice readings had confused me. After I froze the water my confusion was even bigger. My first reaction when seeing the ice was: 'Hurray the first tree in ice!' and then the question after interpreting the photo: 'is it a tree?' The shape was different than most tree examples I had seen. Amazing how I didn't see the resemblance with the weeping willow tree at that moment. That insight came a day a few later when I passed the tree with my dog. As it had been freezing outside, I brought my camera with me to take photos of ice formations in nature. It was not until I saw the tree from the same angle, that it reminded me of the ice reading. I took a new photo of the tree and compared the two images at home. I felt goose bumps because of the incredible resemblance in shape. How could the ice 'know' the shape of the tree better than me? Did my unconscious project this tree on the water that day? Did the water use the tree as a symbol in response to my sadness that day? The ice reading left me with many questions and it did something else. From then on whenever I pass the tree when I walk the dog this tree has become very special to me. I always greet it or touch it when I walk and it has become one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. And while traffic and people pass by without even giving this tree a glimpse, it feels to me that I have been witness to a small miracle.
